Kat Von D was one of the first brands I ever truly coveted at Sephora. I’ve been a long time follower of Kat since her tattoo reality show and she was an inspiration to the tattoos I got when I was in college.

Kat Von D, KVD, liquid lipstick, Everlasting Lipstick, Makeup

I first discovered her makeup brand via youtube when her liquid lipsticks were all the rave. One of the reasons I had stopped buying Mac lipsticks is because they weren’t long lasting enough. Over the years I bought a total of 10 colors but a lot of my colourpop colors were dupes for KVD so I ended up returning a few. The colors I loved enough to keep were Sanctuary (brown mauve) Lolita (pinky mauve), Luv (deep purple), Excorcism (burgundy) Echo (blue), Plath (burnt orange), Outlaw (red).

This is still one of my favorite formulas and if I would recommend anyone to the brand this is the first place I would tell them to start!

Kat Von D, KVD, Shade & Light, Eyeshadow Palette, Morphe Brush, Makeup Kat Von D, KVD, Shade & Light, Eyeshadow Palette, Morphe Brush, MakeupMy next purchase from KVD was with her shade and light eyeshadow palette. I bought this item on a total whim simply because I hadn’t heard very many people talk about it. If I’m being honest, out of all my palettes, it’s not my favorite but it is a great neutral palette. The quad layout makes it really easy for beginners because it explains what should be the base, outer crease etc. I don’t have to think up an eyeshadow look it’s already laid out for me.

Kat Von D, KVD, Lock it Tattoe, Foundation, Makeup

Concealer and foundation are by far my favorite makeup items to buy! I can never have enough in my collection. The lock it foundation is probably the thickest full coverage foundation that I own. It does read on the lighter side (it doesn’t oxidize) so I have to stick to wearing this in winter or make sure to really bronze. This foundation feels like you are wearing something so if you don’t like that feeling then I would pass for a lighter consistency. The concealer, on the other hand, is much more lightweight but packs the same amount of coverage. My only con is that they don’t have enough shade variety for my skin tone, so the color isn’t what I want it to be.

One of her items that didnt make the cut a was the KVD tattoo liner. Ultimately I returned it because it didn’t dry down quick enough and smudged too easily. I’m somebody that is always on the go and I don’t have time to wait until my eyeliner dries. For now, I’m sticking to my Stila!

I don’t know what it is about an empties post that is just so gosh darn fascinating. Who knew rummaging through your trash could be so fun!? These posts are always far and in between because it takes so long to actually go through a full product of makeup and then collect enough to do a post, but today I finalllllly have enough!

Concealers

Concealers are probably one of my favorite things to buy simply because I feel like they all bring something different to the table. My Nars radiant creamy concealer was the first concealer I ever fully used and for a while, I was hesitant to repurchase it. For the price, I didn’t think it was doing anything special and I felt like if I repurchased it would be because of major F.O.M.O. They recently launched some new shades so I will definitely swing by and grab another one. It’s an O.K concealer, but not top on my list. My favorite of all time is the Urban Decay Naked Weightless concealer. I used this every single day until I ran out. I like to try different concealers so I haven’t repurchased this but if I had to say what my favorite was it would be this hands down. Only con is I wish they had a larger shade range.
My Maybelline fit me is a constant repurchase for me. So affordable, blendable and looks great for an everyday look. Whenever I’m in a rush or just want a simple makeup look its the first thing I reach for!

Sprays

The Smashbox primer water was one of those ” I’m standing in line in Sephora and grabbed this as I was waiting” items, but it has been such a great on the whim purchase. I know some people prefer to use this as a setting spray but I actually like it as a primer. I typically spray this right after I put on my moisturizer and then I let it dry while I do my hair. The urban decay setting spray I use solely for setting my face but I find that it doesn’t really do that great of a job. I’ve purchased both the all-nighter and chill spray and I don’t find them to do anything really significant. Since I have dry skin I prefer to set my makeup with a spray instead of a powder but with these, I still have to set with both. I’ve heard that the skindanavia and the makeup forever mist and fix are great alternatives so I may try those next!
The holy grail sprays of all time is the Mac Fix Plus. Over the years I’ve used this before and after my makeup and on my brushes when applying makeup. It’s just a universal spray that can do wonders for your routine. I need to go back and purchase the larger one because I always manage to run out!

foreo luna, skincare, makeup, beauty, dry skin
I’m amazed it has taken me this long to write about this beauty. It’s been a part of my everyday skincare routine for months now, and the key reason why I’ve been able to keep my skin blemish free.
It is offered in 4 different devices: combination (blue), oily (green) sensitive (purple), and normal (pink). I purchased the one for normal skin during the Sephora VIB sale a while ago, and I haven’t put it down since.
For the longest time I went back and forth between the Foreo Luna and the Clarisonic, but I was concerned that the Clarisonic would be too harsh on my skin. Plus the idea of having to repurchase the heads every couple of months was something I financially did not want to take on. When I heard that the Foreo Luna was re-chargeable, and didn’t need replacements I started diving into more research about it. The deciding factor for me was the pulsating option. It felt light enough to where it wouldn’t break me out but strong enough to exfoliate and cleanse my skin.

The (+) and (-) signs are used to adjust the pulsating intensity. I believe it comes pre-set to maximum so when I first started using it, it left red dots all over my skin. I highly recommend changing the intensity to something lower for everyday cleaning. I only use the highest intensity when I’m scrubbing off a mask or when I’m deep cleansing (which I do once a week).

The Foreo Luna comes with two segments to your cleansing routine. The first is meant for the front of the Luna, in which it pauses every 20 seconds to let you know to move to the other part of your face. The second segment is meant for the back of the luna, which is the anti-aging portion of the routine. I personally don’t like the way the back of the Luna feels so I don’t use it; instead, I use the second segment to exfoliate my lips. After the first segment I rinse off my Foreo Luna, and I add exfoliant to my lips (currently using the one from bite beauty). I scrub for about 30 seconds and then rinse.

I find that it pairs best with liquid cleansers and exfoliators, instead of balms or gels. I prefer to apply cleanser directly on the Luna, but it works just the same if you apply to your face first and then scrub. The silicon makes it extremely easy to clean and I’m never leery about leaving it in the shower. I use this every single day and I have only charged it once in the 6 months. The battery life is out of this world amazing!

All in all, I love using it and would highly recommend it for us dry to normal girls!

Color correcting has been an up and coming beauty trend. It’s not a huge part of my makeup routine but recently I switched from glasses to contacts and I have two scars on the bridge of my nose. I’ve tried every concealer under the sun to cover them up but nothing I tried had a thick enough consistency. Recently I was browsing youtube (where I do all my shopping these days) and saw one of my favorite beauty gurus using this color corrector palette. I haven’t heard anyone else talking about it but I definitely think it deserves some hype!

 Packaging

You probably can tell by the name but this color correcting set comes as a palette with white casing. The shades are arranged from fair skin correctors to deep and it comes with a sheet explaining each color. I found this extremely helpful since the palette of 15 correcting shades can feel a little overwhelming. All the colors are marked with a clear overlay, which I kept for reference in case I forgot. It’s a standard palette size, roughly the same size of my KVD shade + light palette or a Too Faced Chocolate Bar. It is long but it’s a slim palette making it easy for travel!

How to use

Color correcting means different things for different skin tones, so everyone can use it in their own way. I primarily use 4 shades(left to right): one for bright undereye, one for covering the scars on my nose, one for a light everyday contour and one for a harsh contour. For us dark skinned girls it’s hard to find color correcters that we can use that aren’t too orange or too red. I love this palette for its varying color options so you can build the coverage you want. Although some shades get used more than others, you can use this color correcting palette to highlight, conceal, correct and contour. This palette does not come with an applicator so I use either my finger or a small brush. I blend them out with my fingers, brush and/or beauty blender and all of these work great.

 Overall

It’s easily blendable and the huge shade range makes it accessible for everybody. The large mirror makes it a great palette to travel with. The downsides are it doesn’t come with an applicator and some of the shades I won’t ever use, but that’s the case with any palette you buy. I actually wish the shades came individually in a tube so that I could buy them without having to repurchase the palette. Every shade I’ve used for concealer, contouring, or color correcting has worked just as good if not better than my other beauty products. Great bang for your buck!

skincare, hydration, kate somerville, tarte maracuja, tatcha oil

One of my goals for 2017 is to focus more on skincare. My skincare routine has always consisted of soap & water, and although I hear it’s a cardinal sin it works fine for me. As of recently, I’ve been wanting to do a little bit more to give my skin some oomph. My desert dry skin is always in desperate need of moisture so I figured a proper skincare routine could do just that.

Last year I bought the Clinique three step system and it broke me out terribly. The system requires you to use it twice a day and it comes with a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer; which I think was just too much for my skin. I got rid of it and have been looking for a replacement ever since. When I started researching on YouTube I noticed that everyone’s routine was either too long or required too many products. I knew I didn’t want to spend 15 minutes cleaning my face every day, so I wanted products that could be multipurpose.

skincare, kate somerville, cleanser, moisturizer

My first stop was Sephora, where a lady sold me on the Kate Somerville goat milk cleanser. I liked it because it was nonfoaming, which dries out my naturally dry skin, and it also worked as a moisturizer. It didn’t leave my skin feeling tight or stripped like most cleansers do. I went back and purchased the full bottle and so far it’s just O.K. I’ve been using it for a couple of months and for the $35 price tag I don’t think it does anything spectacular.

Tarte maracuja oil, cleansing oil, skincare

Next purchase was something to help hydrate my skin. I’ve tried lotion after lotion but nothing that feels like it really seeps into my skin. I’ve heard rave reviews about the Tarte Maracuja and Its been on my wishlist for a while. When I found out that it came in an affordable travel size, I decided to purchase.  A little bit of this product goes a long way, so the small size will last a while. I typically apply this right after removing my makeup with the Tatcha Cleansing Oil.

I’ve been on the hunt for is a daily exfoliant so if you have any suggestions let me know!

Have you used any of the above products?
