I’m one of those people who plans everything out. I establish a to-do list every day, with a detailed itinerary on what my goals are and how to finish them. Sometimes I spend so much time planning that I don’t actually end up doing anything. Crazy how that could happen right? Over time I’ve had to develop little ways to get myself to actually be productive. I figured I would share them with you all in case you could use them too!

Turn the lights on

This may seem obvious, but I personally like to work in dim lit environments; especially when I first wake up in the morning. I light a candle and easeeee into my day, but on days I have a lot to do I’m more productive when I turn the light on. You’ll notice that when the sun is out it inspires people to be more active, as opposed to when the weather is dark and gloomy.

I have the lights on right now- in case you were wondering.

Sit at a desk

I loveeeee my bed. Especially in the cold winter months, I would rather have my fleece sheets than a hard chair. I must admit though that sitting upright makes getting things done a lot easier. You’re less prone to laying in bed and taking a nap mid day (guilty) or letting Netflix mind control you while you aimlessly sit in bed doing nothing. Trust me, we have all been there….

Create the right environment

If the two options listed above aren’t available to you in your home then go some place else where you know will thrive. In the summer months, I love to work outside. I remember when I was in college being in a library could be so stifling. My allergies usually meant I couldn’t stay outside for long but nonetheless, I got a lot of work done. For others, it may be Starbucks, library, or a local restaurant. Whatever that environment is, utilize it!

Utilize time efficiently

My commute can be long and tiresome. However, it is idle time with wifi access that could be used to be productive. If you feel like there is never enough hours in the day then this is where you can steal some extra time! If you’re at work and have a canceled meeting, use it as some time to catch up on something that may have normally been put on the back burner. If you’re on the elliptical at the gym, bring something that you could read (for me it’s blog posts). You’d be amazed at how much idle time you may have in a day!

I know that sometimes we all need to take a break and unplug for the day, but these are just some tips on how to manage your time effectively and accomplish your daily goals. I hope they help you as much as they do me!

april goals

Every month I set new goals for myself. Don’t get me wrong, I have new year resolutions too, but I think there is something healthy and refreshing about having short-term goals. I’m somebody that tends to move from idea to idea, new adventure to new adventure, so this is my little way of keeping myself entertained!

Crack down on fitness

I have fitness goals, very reasonable fitness goals, but for some reason, I always end up talking myself out of them. I set a plan in motion and by the time I get home I’m too tired to do anything else but crawl in bed. So I decided, instead of working out after I’ve commuted home, that it would be a good idea to work out without going home first. Typically I come home after my 1hr 15 bus ride, unwind for the day and then head to the gym. Sometimes my “unwinding” ends up with me not going to the gym at all. So instead I’ve decided to pack my gym clothes in the car so that I don’t have to go home first after work. Hopefully, without the added of distraction of being home I’ll be more diligent with my routine!

Teeth Whitening

Random I know…I’ve spent years perfecting my teeth (thanks to my nasty habit of sucking my thumb), but I’ve never understood how people could spend 100’s, and sometimes thousands on whitening remedies. There are so many affordable options nowadays that I’m excited to try some at home whitening tricks before I go cashing out the big bucks. Don’t get me wrong, my teeth aren’t disgustingly yellow or anything but I mean who doesnt want pearly white teeth?

Consistency with my Blog

I have several posts in the vault but no time to organize and set them up for scheduling! It’s frustrating because my work week is so slammed that I can only work on the blog during the weekends. I have to utilize every moment (currently watching a movie and blogging as we speak) just to get things done on time. I don’t want to throw things up on the site just to have content, but I promise that some new and fun things are coming your way!

What are some of your monthly goals?

I’m glad I waited such a long time to do this review because I feel like now that the excitement and hype have subsided and I can really give you all a fair assessment. I got the apple watch back in September as a birthday gift, and I’ve had it attached to my wrist ever since. I’ve never been the type to buy something simply because it’s the latest and greatest, especially when it comes to technology, but the apple watch offered some really intriguing features.

apple watch, mac, watch, technology

Let me start off by saying I was not an apple fan. I typically like to root fo the underdog (Toshiba is my favourite) but since I have an iPhone it only makes sense that all my other devices are compatible. It may sound crazy that i don’t like apple considering I own 4 of their products (iPhone, two iPads, and now the apple watch) but at this point it just makes sense that all the devices are connected, especially for blogging.

The watch wasn’t a blog must-have but more of a business necessity. My new position at work requires me to be in a lot of meetings and I’m constantly running all over the building. I work with several different teams during the day and sometimes my mind can get a little scattered. I wanted something that could help keep me on track, almost like a new rendition of a beeper but on your wrist. I have the watch connected to my work email and calendar, and it sends me reminders for meetings and any upcoming activities. For blogging, I’ve been using it to send me a reminder to post something on Instagram (when working a full-time job you don’t have time for social media), or remind me to participate in a twitter chat when I can (I try to get in at least one during lunch). So reason number one why I love the apple watch: It helps me keep track of my time (no pun intended)

Reason number two: it’s stylish!. When I first saw the apple watch I thought it looked extremely masculine. The chrome and highlighter rubber bands had me completely turned off. But they recently came out with a rose gold color and newer stylish bands that made it more appealing, not to mention hat it matches my rose gold iPhone 6s plus.

Reason number three was something I sort of just stumbled on and that was its fitness features. I was always interested in getting a Fitbit, but when the apple watch came out I liked the ability to have both a phone and a fitness tool. Two for one right!? I use the built-in fitness app as well as the activity app to enter my weight height, etc and then my goals for the day. The activity app offers plenty of other great resources (tells you when to stand, how many calories you should burn a day), but I don’t go that in depth with it. I use the app to track my heart rate and burned calories during a workout.

apple watch, mac, watch, technology, fitness, health

Last but not least its literally a phone on your wrist. As a commuter, I like to make things as efficient as possible. In the mornings, I’m able to stick my phone in my backpack and I don’t have to worry about checking to see if I missed anything because it will all sync to my watch anyway. This is great for when I’m in meetings too because my phone will be in my pocket or purse and I don’t have to reach down to turn it off as well as see who’s calling and texting. Now that I have the iPhone 6splus (which is a clunker of a phone) it can be annoying to have it on hand all the time so the watch is definitely a convenience. I believe the radius of the watch is roughly 15 feet so you can be in another room and it will still pick up signal annnddd if you are disconnected from your phone the watch will tell you!

I know these reasons may not be stellar to some of you and maybe even a little high maintenance, but for a girl on the go, or a fitness lover I think this a great toy to have. The sport is definitely an affordable option and it has the most variety when it comes to the bands.

One of my favorite things about black Friday is the bath and body works sale. Every year I look forward to going in and getting great deals on the soaps, smell goods and my favorite of all candles. Normally their candles are $33 for the large candles so when they have a sale you rack up as much as possibly can. Only this time, I went in, fully prepared to spend whatever amount, and had the most disappointing experience ever! I have never smelled such undesirable scents. Candle after candle smelled terrible! I scoured the whole store looking for something that was worth the deal and none of them smelled good. It’s so disappointing when you go in looking to buy, ready to buy, and there is nothing worth actually buying!

candles, smell, scent, anthropologie, holidays

I continued my search and stumbled upon Anthropologie, which I’ve always admired for its amazing home decor. I’m just going to take a second and let the fashion major side of me come out for a little bit  and say that I was so impressed with how well the store was merchandised I wanted to buy something just for its effortless and shoppable decor. I went straight to the candle section because after a long day of shopping I still hadn’t found any candles. Every single candle smelled like heaven in a can. My boyfriend and I smelled so many we couldn’t even choose which ones we wanted to buy. Do we buy the pomegranate scent? the bigger version or the smaller version? The one with the purple print or the orange print? I mean the options were endlesssssss! I decided on buying four, and my favorite one I bought in the bigger version (burning it now as we speak)

To top it all off when I got to the register they gave you a holiday popper and inside were gumdrops!. Such an adorable festive addition. As a first time shopper at Anthropologie, it really made my experience memorable and I will definitely shop there again!

I hate the cliche “new year new me”, but I have to admit that there is something about a new year that is so refreshing. January is the month to get organized and think forward on what you want your year to look like. For me, I personally like monthly goals as opposed to yearly ones, because I find that things get lost in the way but this year I have some defined things that I want to do.

Travel

My first plane ride was when I was 2 months old, so it’s safe to say that traveling is in my bones. I absolutely love it! I’ve been fortunate enough to have a family that loves to travel and thus I have been able to tag along to places all over the world, but this year I plan on making my own adventures. I have Tahoe booked for February and Europe for October. So excited to see what else this year will bring!

Confidence

I ended the year 2015 on a fairly high note. I was finally in the gym and challenging myself in ways I had never physically done before. It really helped with my overall confidence and feelings about my look (the way I dressed etc) I also started to hone in on my minimalist wardrobe concept, my day to day beauty routine, hairstyles that I liked and could afford to do regularly. All in all spending a lot of time on my appearance. This year I want to continue that but on a bigger level. I want to actually reach my target weight, I want to feel confident enough to take outfit and beauty photos for the blog and overall feel comfortable enough to put myself out there.

Blog

I know every blogger talks about ways the want to improve the blog itself, but I feel like for me this blog is always a reflection of where I’m at in life. If I’m super busy, then things are late with the blog, or maybe even dare I say sloppy? If I have a lot of time on my hands then my posts are more detailed, If I don’t feel confident then I don’t want to post any pictures of myself, here or on social media……..and the list goes on and on. My goal is that as I spend more time focusing on the goals above that I will be inspired to share and hence grow and invest more in my blog. I really think that this could be something special and I plan on nurturing it so that it can grow to its fullest potential!

Discipline

Last year was a big chaotic for me, I had just moved back to the Bay Area, I had no job for the first three months, and when I finally found one it was a freelance gig. Nothing felt very secure and I was constantly working to get myself in a more stable position. Now that I’m in a better place I want to be more intentional and disciplined with my goals, especially the ones I have listed above. I spent all last year thinking about what I would do when I finally got settled and now that I have I want to work hard to accomplish things.

What are some of your goals for 2016?
