Let me just start off by saying I absolutely love creating these types of posts. Fashion has been a passion of mine for years but ever since I started working in the industry it’s rare that anything actually excites me. I see trends and products months before they are released and I’ve been become far too picky and annoyed to even bother to shop in stores anymore. It’s more like shopping is now a chore instead of something relaxing. Horrifying I know! Anyways I said all of that to say that ever since I’ve converted to a minimalist wardrobe I’ve fallen in love with shopping all over again. It’s like a have a new project to do and the territory is so unchartered and different for me. I’m loving rediscovering my wardrobe, what the heck I even like and fun new places to shop. So far I’ve compiled a small little list of where I like to go to buy my basic and transitional clothing!

Asos is my holy grail one stop shop for everything! I recently measured myself and now that I have that down, shopping on this site is so easy. For my vegas trip, I bought a few things and they fit perfectly. I bought a skirt, harem pants and a crop top for $100 bucks. I didn’t have to worry about paying for shipping, and their return system is so easy. Aside from great customer service I like shopping here because they have so many options. When I searched cropped tops it came up with 450 options and I was able to narrow them down by size, color, price and even by crew neck and turtleneck since I knew that was the style I wanted. They also offer the option to buy things packaged; meaning stuff can be bought in pairs of two. For example the two crop tops I bought could have been bought together for a cheaper price but unfortunately they didn’t have my size in both the colors I wanted; but for my basic shoppers this is right up our alley. If you’re looking for black grey, white and navy then the packaged option is a good deal.

Brandy Melville

I’m shocked this store doesn’t make the cut more often. I think it’s largely underrated. Brandy Melville has some great everyday clothing. The one downside is that everything is “ one size fits all” so for those that are xs, or xl I wouldnt recommend this for you. Since my size is usually between medium and large (depending on the fabric and cut) their clothes fit me perfectly. They have just the perfect amount of looseness to them and are great for summer wear or even for layering in the colder months. They don’t have a lot of color options; gray, white and black is about as spicy as they get, but like I said they can easily be dressed up or dressed down. After all this is a basics list so the color options are going to be slim.

Let me clarify by saying that I am a Madewell fan but I do not like J.crew ( for those of you who didn’t know they are the same company). Madewell has more casual options and when I’m looking for my basics I like something that I can make my own, not something that already has a bunch of prints and fluff that I have to work around. J.crew clothes don’t fit me either (I find that their sizing runs a little small). This store is pricey, but I think when it comes to the essentials that they are worth the investment. If you’re going to wear the shirt 8 times a month then I would say that it was worth the $50 you may have spent on it. I’m learning with minimalism. that its quality over quantity so I’m working hard to be more choosy with my spending and less fearful of the price tags. Their sale section is always the best. Catch them on a 40% off and you’re golden. They aren’t the most innovative with the cuts of their clothes but if you’re looking for clean American style then this is the spot for you!

These are the top 3 places I go to when I’m shopping for some new goodies, but a few stores are still worth honorable mention…

Uniqlo: a new favorite of mine

ZARA: Mainly shop their blazers.

H&M: Have some good winter option for an affordable price. I have two sweaters from here that I’m obsessed with

Where do you shop for your basics! Leave them in the comment section. I would love to hear!!

Sometimes I feel like switichin up my look. Beyonce has Sasha Fierce. Nicki Minaj has Roman Zolanski so it makes sense that we take on an alternate personality too.  I’ve always considered myself someone that doesn’t really fit into a specific type of style. I like to wear what I want when I want and not be confined. One day you might get glam Amanda, another day you may get boyfriend Amanda, sometimes wanna be gangsta Amanda comes out (emphasis on the wannabe cause anyone that knows me knows I have a little swag.)

Here are some of my secrets on how I switch up my look from time to time.

Wearing my clip ins, mac velvet teddy and some fun glasses!

  1. Change up your hair: I have never dyed my hair and I think that’s most people’s go to when they want to switch up their look is to go for the dye. Well, I’m here to tell you that there are some other ways to change things without using chemicals. One of my favorite ways is to add some extensions to my hair. Check out my review on the current hair that I wear. Secondly, I like to change up my part. If you usually wear a middle part, try a side part and vice versa. You’ll be surprised at how many people ask you if you did something different to your hair. Lastly, try a different style. If you always wear your hair straight try some loose curls or if you have naturally curly hair (don’t worry I’m not going to say straighten, not trying to get cussed out over the computer), but I will say try and change your curl pattern by adding to your natural curls. Use a wand to possibly straighten out really tight coils and add some looser waves or wash, comb, and braid your hair up to change to some sexy beach waves.
  2. My all time favorite way to switch up my look is to use some personality glasses. You can find some really affordable glasses at Forever 21 or Target that look like prescription but aren’t. They immediately add some dimension to your look and there is a ton of options you can choose from. I use them all time.
  3. Do NOT underestimate the power of a great lip. If you love lipstick but don’t know how; I have a few tips outlined in my how to line your lips post. Some of my favorite lipsticks right now are NYX shocking pink matte lipstick, NYX lip creams (check out my previous review), and MAC Velvet Teddy as an everyday nude. Lipstick is something that will immediately draw attention to your face and depending on the color you wear it can either be a statement piece or understated elegance.

Hopefully, some of these things help re-inspire a boring wardrobe or unblock some thoughts on how to freshen up your look. I would love to hear about any additional things you guys do to change things up from time to time. Comment below with some tips!

I’m the type of person that sees everything in her closet as an essential. Ever since I crossed over to a minimalist way of dressing, there really isn’t much that I have now that isn’t necessary. I got rid of all the junk and have really honed in my style, but every now and then I like to buy at least one or two seasonal items throughout the year. If it’s Winter I usually pick up a moto jacket and a trench, for Spring I pick up a few cardigans etc. Summer is when it’s the worst for me because I feel like all the cute girlie stuff comes out in this season (like this new Lilly agenda I just bought…IN LOVE). The sun is out, my mood is great and I want to shop! Here are some of the things I can’t live without for the summer months….

Maxi Dress: Everybody needs one of these in your life. My favorite part about a maxi is that it’s quick, easy and it covers my legs for days I don’t have time to shave (or just flat out don’t feel like it). Summer is supposed to be effortless and a good maxi is the definition of that. I like to buy mine in spring when they come out with all the pretty pastel colors, and then I pick up a few brighter colors in summer. I always make sure to snag a black and one with stripes so that I can wear them later in the year. Lulus is my favorite place to shop for maxi’s!

Sunglasses: I know you can’t tell in the picture (some serious mean muggin going on) but I absolutely love these sunglasses! I haven’t told you guys this yet, but I have a slight obsession with Celine sunglasses. Since I wear glasses everyday I’m always looking for brands that take it to the next level and can show me something I haven’t seen yet, and Celine always delivers!. Her frames are the perfect mix of edgy and classy with an added hint of retro. You can always find a pair of glasses to match your mood. Sunglasses are a great way for me to give my normal glasses a rest and do something different to switch up my look.

Runner-up is A straw hat or a floral headband

Sandals: This is my favoriteeeeeeee part of summer!! I am a sandal feen. Don’t let there be a pair of sandals I like AND in my size…I guarantee you I’m walking out the store with one in every color. I don’t think anyone can ever have enough sandals! My new comfortable favorites are these Birkenstocks, and my nude ones I got from Aldo years ago. Normally I buy bright colored sandals, but since I’m on this minimalist journey I’ve been gravitating to more neutral colors like nude, cognac and black. Every now and then I switch it up with gold or some type of metallic shoe just to have some fun with it!

Runner-up is perforated sneakers like these

Crossbody: There is nothing worse than sweating on your gorgeous LV leather bag. Not cute boo…not cute. Summer is when a crossbody/messanger bag is mandatory. I normally don’t like these because they tend to cover up my whole outfit (and all the hard work that went into putting it together), but during the hotter months they are crucial. I’m a handbag fanatic and most of my stuff is high-quality leather. Not only are the majority of them heavy but they are also large. I’m all for a tote but when you’re shopping or headed to the beach you want to keep things as simple as possible. Leave the heavy-duty bags in your closet for the winter time and have a little carefree fun with a bright crossbody bag. My favorite is the one above that I picked up from Francesca’s. I think the multicolors make it perfect for summertime and the cork material is super durable!

Runner Up is a wristlet or a tote bag made of canvas instead of leather. Kate spade has some super cute ones!

Well that’s about it for my summer essentials. I’m pretty easy going during summer since I prefer to shop during the colder months (gawd knows I love my jackets. Those come second to sandals). There is just something about layering clothes just makes my heart swoon. Anyway be sure to leave below what your summer essentials are! I would love to hear them!

Ps: I’m currently on a “no buy” until I lose some of this winter weight! Check out my workout journey here!
