I’m glad I waited such a long time to do this review because I feel like now that the excitement and hype have subsided and I can really give you all a fair assessment. I got the apple watch back in September as a birthday gift, and I’ve had it attached to my wrist ever since. I’ve never been the type to buy something simply because it’s the latest and greatest, especially when it comes to technology, but the apple watch offered some really intriguing features.
Let me start off by saying I was not an apple fan. I typically like to root fo the underdog (Toshiba is my favourite) but since I have an iPhone it only makes sense that all my other devices are compatible. It may sound crazy that i don’t like apple considering I own 4 of their products (iPhone, two iPads, and now the apple watch) but at this point it just makes sense that all the devices are connected, especially for blogging.
The watch wasn’t a blog must-have but more of a business necessity. My new position at work requires me to be in a lot of meetings and I’m constantly running all over the building. I work with several different teams during the day and sometimes my mind can get a little scattered. I wanted something that could help keep me on track, almost like a new rendition of a beeper but on your wrist. I have the watch connected to my work email and calendar, and it sends me reminders for meetings and any upcoming activities. For blogging, I’ve been using it to send me a reminder to post something on Instagram (when working a full-time job you don’t have time for social media), or remind me to participate in a twitter chat when I can (I try to get in at least one during lunch). So reason number one why I love the apple watch: It helps me keep track of my time (no pun intended)
Reason number two: it’s stylish!. When I first saw the apple watch I thought it looked extremely masculine. The chrome and highlighter rubber bands had me completely turned off. But they recently came out with a rose gold color and newer stylish bands that made it more appealing, not to mention hat it matches my rose gold iPhone 6s plus.
Reason number three was something I sort of just stumbled on and that was its fitness features. I was always interested in getting a Fitbit, but when the apple watch came out I liked the ability to have both a phone and a fitness tool. Two for one right!? I use the built-in fitness app as well as the activity app to enter my weight height, etc and then my goals for the day. The activity app offers plenty of other great resources (tells you when to stand, how many calories you should burn a day), but I don’t go that in depth with it. I use the app to track my heart rate and burned calories during a workout.
Last but not least its literally a phone on your wrist. As a commuter, I like to make things as efficient as possible. In the mornings, I’m able to stick my phone in my backpack and I don’t have to worry about checking to see if I missed anything because it will all sync to my watch anyway. This is great for when I’m in meetings too because my phone will be in my pocket or purse and I don’t have to reach down to turn it off as well as see who’s calling and texting. Now that I have the iPhone 6splus (which is a clunker of a phone) it can be annoying to have it on hand all the time so the watch is definitely a convenience. I believe the radius of the watch is roughly 15 feet so you can be in another room and it will still pick up signal annnddd if you are disconnected from your phone the watch will tell you!
I know these reasons may not be stellar to some of you and maybe even a little high maintenance, but for a girl on the go, or a fitness lover I think this a great toy to have. The sport is definitely an affordable option and it has the most variety when it comes to the bands.
